Exploring Germany - Touring Hamburg by bus

While riding our train from Köln to Hamburg we sat in the cabin portion of the train to take advantage of the space and for some blogging productivity. We were greet by a polite German fellow named Bruno who was heading to Hamburg where he is from. He noticed me typing furiously away into my tablet writing blogs from the Netherlands trying to play catch up - Bruno said Hello and we met one of our first travel friends. It was an exciting experience to have good conversation with someone that was from Hamburg and could speak English with us. Bruno had done some traveling so we all felt like travel was a commonplace for our cabin. Bruno was intrigued with our story and the journey we're on - he gave us great tips on some adventures for us to see and experience Hamburg.

We took his suggestion to see Hamburg by bus tour our first full day there - after settling into our Air BnB we head into central town where we paid €30 (15 a piece) to tour Hamburg by bus (which we could hop on and off). Thirty euro might seem like a lot considering our €50 a day budget but to see Hamburg by foot is nearly impossible as its Germany's second largest city. The open bus tour was neat - the guide told us he could speak English but much of the tour was in another language making it slightly difficult to comprehend. The purpose of a tour bus like this is that you get dropped in different places throughout the city of Hamburg like we spot a street market (seen below) so we hopped off the tour and another instance on Bruno's suggestion we jumped off the bus at the massive shipping harbor (seen above).
The tour bus always helped us pick out our plan for the second day in Hamburg - driving us in and around the richest, most wealthy lake development in all of Germany - Alster Lake. We got to see the Queen of England's lake house which is quite impressive costing way more than a couple million euros - there was also a mansion for sale at the lakeside for €19 million - any takers? Hamburg is an exciting, busy busy, growing city at (1.73 million) maybe like the Chicago of Europe - we enjoyed our time spent in Hamburg more than our time in Köln, Germany.
We spent the second full day in Hamburg walking the massive (160 hectare) lake strolling thru different parks, soaking up the bright German sunshine and sunsets. Photo walk of this lake day coming soon...Thanks for readin! ~MYT
