Over the next few days we will be building posts for: Haarlem, the Netherlands Hidden Gem, Exploring Amsterdam, a post describing the museums and experiences we participate in while here in Amsterdam plus our top ten Coffeshops from our extended visit here.  We really enjoyed exploring the town of Haarlem and walking the streets of Amsterdam - although a bit overwhelming for some - we made the most of this busy, live and energetic city.  I wanted to start off our posting with just a quick photography peek at the Netherlands so you can get an idea of what this area looks and feels like.  Above is an exciting images of massive bubbles being blown in front of the Amsterdam Central Train Station - good thing the rain stopped this day so we were able to capture some of these moments.  Below is a view of the canal's near our Air BnB in Haarlem, NL - keep scrolling for more images by frankieboyphotography.com

The canal systems here in Europe and the Netherlands are like something out of a fairy tale - many of them still in use today not just for tourism but for the same reason they were built centuries ago - primarily for the transport of goods like beer, coffee and more.  Below another night view of the Canals in Haarlem, NL

So you have a brief understanding of how the canals dominate the landscape here in the Netherlands - canals make up over 100 kilometers (about 65 miles) in and around Amsterdam City which has create about 90 different islands to explore with access from 1500 bridges connecting this beautiful metropolis together.  Here's an image I took from my iPhone while touring the Canals - we will have an entire blog coming soon on this canal tour... Scroll to the bottom for a few more images! Read more on the Canals of Amsterdam by clicking here.

Of course a visit to Amsterdam would be nothing if you don't visit a few of their world famous 'coffeeshops' not only serving up delicious coffee drinks but also some quality cannabis can be found in both Haarlem and A-Dam ... we will dedicate an entire post to debunking the myth of 'Tourists can't be cannabis in the Netherlands anymore' and dive into our favorite coffee shop experiences here in NL.  We gladly expressed our right to partake in the coffee shops delights - kindly ignore these articles if this isn't something that interests you - we did plenty to experience and tour Amsterdam cannabis-free as well.  You will fall in love with both of these cities whether or not pot applies to you - the beauty will overcome the fine scents of cannabis trickling up these brick covered streets.
