Top Five most beautiful places we visit in Europe
People are constantly asking us 'Where is the most beautiful place you have been?' its' tough to answer that question because the new places we are constantly seeing (India and the rest of Asia) seem to trump the beauty of Europe altogether. Europe's history is beautiful - nothing can beat the countless churches, ancient structures, castles and the age behind Europe's vast historic architecture. We've been able to identify our top five most beautiful destinations that we have visit in Europe and they go like this...
#1 The Basque Country, Donostia, Spain (seen above and below)
The Basque country felt like the California of Europe - surfers everywhere, a thriving cannabis culture, young adults and beautiful community of people - not to mention all the fantastic flavors of the foods of Spain. I constantly tell people that I fell in love with the beauty of Prague in the Czech Republic - this wouldn't normally land itself on many travelers places to visit in Europe but when you plan your next Euro trip make it a point to include Praha. Every corner I turned something different caught my eye and I found myself saying 'Ohh wow look how gorgeous this area is - look at the views and all the cobblestone, red rooftops' the history here is beautiful, the people were friendly and I highly recommend you plan a trip to Prague, Czech Republic the next time your in Europe.
#2 Prague, Czech Republic (next two images below)
Asia has been outstanding in its beautiful temples, curiously friendly people and exciting cuisine - we will come up with a list ranking some of the most beautiful places we have visit in Asia soon enough. The third place was again an audible on our trip when we made a decision to go visit Portugal - some of the locations we picked were far off the normal tourist path of visiting Europe and really surprised us the most. So coming in at number three is
#3 Porto, Portugal
Our Europe trip was cut short due to France's borders being closed - therefore we were unable to visit Italy - which really hurt my travel heart. We wanted to spend at least one month exploring the entire country of Italy but because we were unsure of the safety in Europe we had to re route our trip - someday we will return to Europe and tour all of Italy including Switzerland. We tried to throw Switzerland into our country list during our first 60 days in Europe but because it was so expensive to visit even for a few short days - we were unable to make it to the Swiss Alps a location we knew would blow our minds and a place that we could have captured some outstanding travel photography. It's tough to change your itinerary when your out on the road - but it is important to pay attention to world news and world safety - WE WILL BE BACK FOR YOU: ITALY AND SWITZERLAND (how could I forget about Greece).
#4 Haarlem, the Netherlands
Haarlem will always hold a special place in our hearts - I would even own, rent out a property in a place like Haarlem, Netherlands just so I could go back there time and time again. To wake up, eat a delicious European breakfast/pastry then go to a coffeeshop to enjoy a cappuccino and a joint - this is Amsterdam but at a much slower pace, and is a very beautiful place. The photography here is endless: historic windmills, people on bikes everywhere, beautiful reflections along the canals and hazy morning sunrises - not to mention Haarlem is only a 15 minute train ride to Amsterdam.
#5 Barcelona, Spain
Coming in at number five was one of the last destinations we visit in Europe - Barcelona, Spain - the interesting thing about Barcelona (and Spain in general) is that it doesn't feel like all the other places in Europe. Spain is more laid back, more relaxed, more cultured and still maintains the beauty of Europe - but with a totally different feel. We really enjoyed our time spent in two different regions of Spain - we definitely recommend checking out both the Basque Country and also Barcelona.
Although this post says top five most beautiful destinations we visit in Europe - I must include a sixth:
#6 Lyon, France
The canals, historic landmarks, creative graffiti and street art really captivate me everywhere we walked and visit in Lyon, France. If you don't care to see other regions of France - make a stopover in Lyon and you'll see why we've include it in this post about the most beautiful destinations we experienced on our Euro 2015 trip.
