I’m not sure if this is the best or worst time to be writing this article but I am writing a blog post to outline why I’ve decided to go freelance full-time. The reason why I prefaced it with that is because we are nearing the end of the first week of the coronavirus outbreak and this has never felt like a scarier time to be a freelancer especially a freelance photographer. I don’t know what to make of this illness or what to think of this outbreak but I have already seen the drastic impact on the stock market in the global economy as the week has moved on. At the beginning of the week I didn’t think this could affect my freelance business but it has definitely trickle down and I know Creatives everywhere are feeling the pain of this medical crisis.

Listen up! I'm launching a pod cast and here's the first episode! An update on an upcoming travel trip and more details on what's inspiring me lately.

Let me shift away from that… as I can’t really even talk about it anymore and start to talk about why I decided to go freelance full-time in 2020.  There is never a right time to go charging after an artistic dream or an artistic passion similar to the path I am chasing with adventure and landscape photography. However after working at a design agency for over a year doing their photography and social media I felt strongly that it was time to make a change and start to press toward freelance photography as my full-time career and business.  Starting this business for me in 2020 has been a very unique year, with the crash of the stock market and thankfully a large photography project to start the year for me I’m a bit concerned looking at the future and looking at the horizon of this decision I’ve made to leave both salary and health insurance behind.  At the same time I have to remind myself every day that I wasn’t necessarily 100% happy at my old job which isn’t fair to that company and definitely not fair to me... when you go chasing artistic dreams, and artistic career or a photography career you’re taking a huge risk and I am living that risk right now, this is a very interesting time for me but I am trying my best to stay positive and focus on the things that I can control.

Now that I am back to writing blogs every week I also want to draw your attention to a podcast that I recently started, in this podcast you can hear me explain some ups and downs and frustrations along the way of going freelance full-time... this is never an easy path nor did I expect it to be an easy one, instead this is a massive hike that I am just beginning, learning along the way and steadily marching toward a bigger goal at the top of the mountain.  Why did I start the podcast? It’s time for me to try something new and one, someday the social network horizon will all change and develop and I can’t have all my eggs in one basket (Instagram) so I am trying to launch a podcast. It’s a way for me to verbally describe what’s on my mind, what’s going on and give out some helpful insight or tips or talk about some challenges I’ve been facing as I go for it, go for freelance photography full time.

One thing that I am most thankful for now that I am freelancing full-time would be my freedom and ability to just go hiking during the week day or go catch a sunset or sunrise whenever I want to. Admittedly, I have not taken full advantage of this privilege yet as I am still trying to get used to a new routine and figure out a new schedule that works for me, fits with my life and also fits with my creative drive and desire to be a successful freelance photographer.  In one of my podcasts I described and strongly believe that the key to success when you are a freelancer is how you manage your time and what you spend your time working on - this is some thing I am still learning every day, something I have struggled with in the past but we’re all working on some thing and I know once I have a solid routine in place that everything else will fall into place.
