We wanted to touch on five websites + apps that have become a crucial part of traveling abroad for us - we use these for navigational reasons, tourist information, communication and planning purposes.  The first app is something we are constantly using, posting from and recommending: Google Maps - if you don't already have this on your phone, there's a good chance your still living in the stone age. Long before Google Maps... tourists, explorers and adventurers used maps, compasses and coordinates to find their way - thanks to the brilliant minds at Google they've taken all the frustration out of getting lost (as long as you have a strong internet connection - to start the directions from).  Google maps is a great service - we also use CityMaps2Go by Ulmon (click for the itunes store link) for finding tourist sights, nearby attractions and other useful way points.  The only catch with CityMaps2Go is you must have the map download to your phone before getting to an area - so before heading to your next destination be sure to load the next city in CityMaps2Go.

One of the most common apps in Europe and the rest of the world is messaging app & service WhatsApp.  Most of our Air BnB hosts have asked if we have this or use WhatsApp - since downloading it at the beginning of the Europe trip I am just starting to use it more and more.  A really high quality messaging service, not everyone has an iPhone in Europe so it keeps all messaging organized and communication can be simplified in one place.  There's check marks indicating if your message has been sent or received - which can be helpful when trying reaching out to a host for the first time.  So three apps we highly recommend downloading before your Europe tour:

1. Google Maps          2. CityMaps2Go          3. WhatsApp Messenger

Two helpful websites we constantly find ourselves on: skyscanner.com and lonelyplanet.com - Lonely Planet is a great resource for discovering the perfect day itinerary or what to do in a weekend in certain locations.  Lonely planet is a premiere travel guide with some of the best articles, tips and travel ideas I have ever come across.  I recommend checking out Lonely Planet.com the next time you're in a new place and unsure of what adventures to get into.  Skyscanner is another excellent resource we tapped into before we left the states - we use this to plan our airline travel and decide where we should locate ourselves (in terms of hub cities) to jump to the next country, or region for travel.  But do your research before picking the cheapest airline on here - we always read reviews before flying with carriers we have never heard of simply because of a cheap, cheap price.

4. Lonely Planet Travel Site         5. Skyscanner.com

One last app that we love traveling with is the game: Angry Birds - we use this app countless times to help kill time, ignore flight anxiety, when we're too tried to read, write or edit photography - we love Angry Birds.  Thanks for reading and hope you enjoyed - plus hope you gained some tips on some helpful traveling apps.  ~MYT
