MYT Reviews: Air BnB VS. Hostels
While planning our trip to Europe we wanted to search for the most cost effective living situations – being able to cook, relax in a calm space and stay safe are all very important to us. Meet you there spends a lot of time staying abroad so we want to review our experiences with airbnb.com . We constantly hear from other travelers staying in hostels is the way to go – after doing our research we came up with a different solution. We found Air BNB to be far more cost effective for the two of us to stay while in Europe and around other part of the world.
We compared the price of hostels running at about 60 -$70 Euro a night for a private room compared to a really nice private airbnb for >$40 Euro a night. Not only do you get your own apartment but your able to cook breakfast and pack lunches for your adventures – severely offsetting the costs of eating out all the time. Having access to a small kitchen really helps us out when we’re constantly on the go – it’s nice to make yourself a pasta dinner as well when your missing home. The Air Bnbs are unique in that they make you feel like your at home when really your in another country altogether. We enjoyed running to the local grocery store and to spend only $8-10 Euro on a small grocery trip to cook ourselves breakfast and make some lunches this can really save you money while traveling.

Having our own place to lock our things up also gives us an extra sense of security when staying in foreign countries – hostels you may have to lock your belongings up or chain them together. Also not having to share bathrooms (is always a plus). Most of the Air BNB’s we’ve stayed in have wifi and other amenities hostels might not provide but cost more per night. Something that any backpacker needs is access to a washer and dryer to keep your simple outfits clean and smelling fresh. Almost all the airbnbs we’ve rent have been stocked with amenities! No need to sit around in cafés all day trying to grab shared wifi or paying to do your laundry. On the other hand if your not sharing an AirBnb with some local travelers your not getting the chance to meet people like you would while staying in hostels - which can be a very rewarding experience. We recommend trying both if your traveling solo - Air Bnbs may not be the way to go but it you link up with another traveler consider the Air Bnb your best bet. As we continue on our journey I’m sure we’ll begin to utilize both hostels and continue staying in Air Bnbs as we love the concept and really suggest you try this in your next destination.
