I've successfully teamed up with over 25 tourism boards on projects throughout the United States and beyond... recently, I've been getting this question a lot "How do I get paid to travel and work with tourism boards?" So in this video, it's my aim to answer that.

  • Think of the internet like a delicious vanilla birthday cake…SEO and blog posts are your way of spreading funfetti sprinkles across the delicious icing of the internet. The more information you put out, and especially info on niche subjects, (like my blog post about Conundrum Hot Springs) the better your blog will perform. I’ll link some Skillshare and YouTube videos in my stories to better explain how SEO works

  • SEO in blogs can be a powerful tool for photographers to get noticed. By including relevant keywords in their blog posts, photographers can increase their chances of appearing in search engine results pages (SERPs) when people search for photography-related topics. This can drive more traffic to their website or portfolio, leading to more potential clients and opportunities.

  • Hunter.io is an exceptional tool for pitching on all fronts, if you aren’t sending your emails to the right place your simply wasting your time.

  • A strong portfolio that showcases a plethora of work is crucial as well, not only pretty landscapes but how can you make a destination see, look and feel beautiful… and images that tell a story and leave people begging to visit. Food photography, local gatherings/events, people smiling, (tourism boards love images with smiling faces…) the main intent from your images says to a potential visitor “Hey that could be me… I want to visit that place.”

  • Relationship building is also an undermentioned/underrated way to establish yourself with travel and tourism organizations. I’ve secured numerous tourism projects simply because it’s a good working relationship and the client and I respect each other and work well together. Be professional, hit your deliverables, and build a strong relationship. It takes time and energy to search for a creative person, end that search by locking in numerous gigs with your client through relationship building.

  • Photographers can enhance their blog posts by strategically incorporating SEO-friendly keywords related to their niche, such as "landscape photography tips," or "best travel photography locations." Using these keywords in titles, headings, and throughout the content helps search engines understand and rank the posts higher for relevant queries. Additionally, including descriptive alt text for images and internal linking to other relevant posts can further boost search engine visibility, driving more traffic and opportunities to be discovered by potential clients.

Applying SEO techniques to blogs on Squarespace involves a few specific steps to ensure your content is optimized for search engines. Here’s how you can do it:

1. Keyword Research: Identify relevant keywords for your blog topic using tools like Google Keyword Planner, Ahrefs, or SEMrush.

2. Optimize Titles and Headings: Include your primary keyword in the blog post title and headings. Ensure the title is compelling and accurately reflects the content.

3. Write SEO-Friendly Content: Integrate keywords naturally throughout the blog post. Aim for a keyword density of about 1-2%, ensuring the content remains readable and engaging.

4. Use Descriptive Alt Text for Images: Add descriptive, keyword-rich alt text to all images. In Squarespace, you can do this by clicking on the image, selecting “Edit,” and filling in the “Alt Text” field.

5. Optimize Meta Descriptions: Write a concise meta description (up to 160 characters) that includes your primary keyword. In Squarespace, go to the “SEO” tab for your blog post and enter your meta description.

6. Use Internal Links: Link to other relevant blog posts or pages on your site. This helps search engines understand the structure of your site and keeps visitors engaged.

7. Add Tags and Categories: Use relevant tags and categories for your blog posts. This not only helps with SEO but also makes it easier for visitors to navigate your content.

8. Utilize Excerpts: Write keyword-rich excerpts for your blog posts. These are displayed on your blog index page and can help improve SEO. In Squarespace, you can add an excerpt in the “Options” tab of your blog post.

9. Optimize URLs: Ensure your blog post URLs are clean and include your primary keyword. In Squarespace, you can customize the URL slug in the “Options” tab.

10. Promote on Social Media: Share your blog posts on social media platforms to drive traffic and increase visibility. Social signals can indirectly impact SEO. By following these steps, you can effectively apply SEO techniques to your Squarespace blog, making it easier for search engines to find and rank your content, ultimately driving more traffic to your site.
