Three travel necessities we can't travel without
1. Neptor / Mophie portable battery packs
Before leaving to travel the world we wrote an extended review about battery packs options (click here for that post) - these Neptor battery units have saved us many many times on this trip. Two reasons why we really like them: 1. When traveling between different countries / regions not all plugs are universal so you have to dig thru your pack for a different plug converter - these enable us to charge without having to search for a new converter (as long as they've been charged up the night before) 2. Each battery unit provides two full jump chargers for the iPhone and also a second slot for tablets
These battery packs are a must-have for the digital nomad especially when your trying to get work done far from plugs and while on long travel days it's important to keep your tech gear charged up. We reviewed two different brands back before we left: Neptor Battery Pack and also Mophie Battery Units - Mophie being a much more solid product, but more expensive, the Neptor units work just as well, I find myself using the Neptor unit more often than the Mophie but keep the Mophie in my camera bag to jump my camera back to life if necessary. Purchase a couple of these before leaving for your long-term travel you won't be disappoint by this product and will find yourself using it all the time to stay connected with the world.
2. Travel towels - we searched high and low for some small, compact travel towels and scored big on the Sea to Summit Microfibre pocket towel. Not everywhere you will stay will be equipped with clean towels laid out on the bed so it's important to be prepared - not to mention you might not want to use the towels left for you. These travels towels/shami come in a tiny travel case but expand to the size of a normal towel - perfect for those remote destinations when you need to dry yourself off. Another bonus of these towels is that they dry quickly, and are ready to be thrown bag into your pack probably within an hour or two after using - the carrying pouch has holes in it to allow for the towel to dry completely even if you pack it slightly wet.
3. Packing cubes and zipping pouches - staying organized out on the road is very important as well (click here for link to purchase packing cubes). You don't want to have to unpack your entire bag just for an extra pair of sock/boxers so having packing cubes inside your world pack are an essential method to staying organized. I use three different sized cubes in my pack: one large cube holds pants, sweatshirts, large items - one medium cube holds all my t shirts - and one small expandable cube for all my socks/boxers. Three cubes for my clothes and to keep all my tech gear/chargers organized I use a combination of zipping pouches for my camera gear. The small zipper pouches are very useful as well so you don't just have chargers, chords and batteries floating around in your world bag. Extra uses for packing cubes: dirty laundry bag or secure place to store money, documents and passport.
