MYT in Lake Havasu, Ariozona
About three months ago my friend Torie invite me to visit her family in Lake Havasu, Arizona where her parents have moved to retire. I accept her invitation and we left for Havasu in early May the same snowy morning that Frankie left for the sand dunes.
Travel tip: depending on where your flying from I researched and found that flying into Vegas was the cheapest hub destination for me (read our blog post on hubs – here). I got my round trip ticket for around $70. From the Las Vegas airport you can catch a shuttle to Lake Havasu for around $60 per person. However, I did not do this; we were lucky and Torie’s sweet mother picked us up. I spoke to a few travelers who have done this and explained to me that it turns an hour drive into about 3 hours due to other travelers’ stops. Once in Havasu we stayed at her parents home a few blocks from the lake. Travel tip: If you don’t know anyone that lives in Havasu, AZ try Airbnb.com otherwise there were a few hotels and resorts along the lake. The weather was perfect - around 90 degrees with a slight breeze most of the time. Torie’s parents have a nice boat that we spent most of our time on while in Havasu – be prepared to split a boat rental perhaps with another group as many of the destinations along the lake require a boat. You could inquire about tons of boating options and daily rentals at one of the many rental places – one that stuck out to me Wet Monkey Powerboat Rentals (click here for more info).

The first day we hung out on the north end of Lake Havasu – soaking up the beautiful sun and red rock lake views. We went under what is called “The London Bridge”. As the story goes, the wealthy man Robert McCulloch who discovered Havasu went to London to pick out a bridge and he then had this bridge dissembled and shipped to the U.S. and rebuilt here at Lake Havasu, AZ. It was a cool little attraction - past the bridge you can see where spring breakers must have partied. Party barges everywhere and rows of closed bars situated on the water. While we were there I believe it was one of their ‘offseasons’ so it wasn’t as busy as say Spring Break time.
One of my favorite things about Havasu or Arizona in general is there sunsets! You haven’t seen a sunset until you see it over the beautiful red rock canyons. Unfortunately my camera man Frankie wasn’t with me to capture it ;(

Must Visit: While in Havasu you must go to Pirate’s Cove. We went by boat, which is the route I recommend. You float through 60-foot canyon walls with turquoise waters and palm trees. Once your there you can tie up your boat and relax on white sand beaches. It’s a resort so you can grab a drink or rent some jet ski’s while your there.
