MYT Call to Action - We can all make a difference
Dear World, It's time to make some changes
A consistent theme we have seen all over the world is how much we waste as human beings - garbage piles, burning garbage, beautiful Thai beaches covered in trash ... weigh heavy on us here at Meet You there. We're guilty of it ourselves - traveling leaves a carbon foot print on the world that we may never be able to erase but that doesn't mean we can't all do something about it.
All it takes is me and you, and you, and you - to make a serious impact on the waste problems happening all over the world. I know what your probably thinking 'Shut up you stupid hippie' but coming from the pristine wilderness of Colorado Rocky Mountains I have never been so ashamed at how poorly we as humans, treat this one and only planet we have been given. Places like Koh Phi Phi Don are on the verge of ecological disaster if we continue to treat the ocean, wildlife and surroundings like its' all one big waste plant - we have watched countless tourists walk off their speed boats and carelessly throw trash on these beautiful, crystal clear beaches and return to their gas guzzling without even thinking for a second what they have done. Frankly, I am sick of it and we all need to come together so that places like this will exist for other generations to enjoy - otherwise you better hope there are beaches on Mars (good luck). I've never felt like such a hippie but this is how traveling changes you for the better - to want to impact the world in a positive way.
I'm challenging YOU the next time you travel try to do one simple, small thing, that could really impact the world for the better: PICK UP SOME TRASH ALONG THE WAY ALONG YOUR TRAVELS (and dispose of it properly). Maybe pick up two pieces of trash, if your super cool pick up three pieces and maybe you will turn to your left and see another tourist picking up on the trend -
LET'S ALL TRY TO MAKE A POSITIVE IMPACT ON THIS PLANET.
It was unique to watch another person doing as I did - making a small attempt to preserve a beautiful place like the beaches in Thailand. Perhaps this guy was from Colorado or somewhere just as pristine but thank-you because it really made me feel like I could impact this planet, maybe if we all just followed this Call to action. I'm not asking you to do a full-fledged beach clean up (would be stellar, go you!) but just by cleaning up a few pieces of garbage - can you imagine if we all did this?! All over the planet?! What a change we could make... and maybe other generations would catch on and would also be able to enjoy the beauty of these places - before they are just covered in trash.
So next time before you throw your empty beer can in the water, or trash the beach you were visiting for an hour - don't think someone else will just pick it up. Instead be positive, make the effort to preserve these places... the planet will thank us all. ~Meet You There
