Getting to Norway and April Update 2020

Getting to Lofoten, Norway and April Update 2020

It’s hard to keep track of time right now but I put up a podcast recently describing the travel that went into my Norway trip, if you’d like to have a listen you could check that out right here. If you’re unfamiliar with my podcast start to familiarize yourself with it because I am trying to get more listeners and also a better understanding for the type of content you would like to listen to. I’ve been telling myself that I need to move away from this journal type-podcast and move into more education and interviews moving forward but I am on here to try new things, to write blogs again and to explain what’s on my mind and what’s going on in my creative world.

Check out that podcast right here:

Be Free Ep. 7, Norway Intro (getting to Norway) - I talk about the travel and planning that went into getting to Lofoten, Norway... next episode Days 1-5 of the Nate In The Wild workshop

In this blog post I will share some screenshots and talk more about the locations and the ways that I book my travel to get to places like Norway. I use a specific air booking site called: https://www.momondo.com OR https://www.skyscanner.com These websites are unique because they helps me find flights that are cheaper by flying on specific days and avoiding days of travel that would normally be more expensive. I know some of this information may be a relevant right now because many of us are unable to travel but I thought I would provide you some resources and other information on how I book my travel. Also, if you do a little more clicking around and go deeper on the blog you will find all my entries from traveling the globe back in 2015

Okay, enough rambling — let’s take a peek at my travel itinerary

MY NOTES ABOUT MY RETURN TRAVEL DAY | F.SPONTELLI 2020

Yes, it takes a lot of work to get to Lofoten  islands from Denver Colorado but in the end it was an unforgettable trip and worth every moment of travel that it took to get there and to get home. So as you can see I broke up my outbound travel with a hotel at an airport in Oslo, Norway and then continued on to Leknes Airport (after laying over briefly in Bodø).  The airplane to get to Lofoten Islands is a tiny little puddle jumper my suggestion to photographers is to make sure you don’t have too much luggage on you before this plane flight.  There was a lot of gear involved in staying warm on this trip and it took up a lot of luggage space for me on top of all my camera gear and also bringing my drone with me, needless to say I was carrying a lot of gear with me but I recommend trying your best to keep it in two bags.

I found traveling to Norway to be just incredible… The food was exceptional, the people of Norway (almost all spoke English) were polite and extremely accommodating/welcoming and because I’ve traveled a little bit, you start to pay attention to the cleanliness of how people live in other parts of the world, I found Norway to be exceptionally clean maybe similar to somewhere like Singapore. As our puddle jumper broke through the clouds and approached the runway in Leknes, Norway my eyes were glued to the jagged peaks rising from the sea covered in a fresh layer of snow.  I arrived in the airport and was super thankful to have all my luggage and all my camera gear with me safely in Norway… As I waited for our workshop instructors to pick me up I walked around outside the airport checking out the local scenery.

Our first day was pretty simple we met up with our workshop instructors and slowly gathered all the participants of the workshop who showed up one by one coming from the same airport using the same small little airplane.  What an experience (for some) to do all that travel in one go... part of the reason why I did a layover in Oslo was because I wanted to be very well rested for the beginning of a seven day workshop. From the airport we drove into vehicles to these perfect little red cabins perched by the sea, the accommodations were perfect you could basically walk out our side door and make a really stunning image of the surrounding Norwegian landscapes.  We placed our belongings in our rooms and geared up because the group seemed more than excited to get out and start seeing some of the surrounding areas.

Here are some of my favorite memories & images from the first two days of our Norway trip...

I don’t want this to be a play by play blog entry of our Norway workshop but as we roll deeper into each day I will get a little more specific with my story telling and explaining of how I captured certain individual images along with camera settings and more. I hope you enjoyed listening to my podcast and checking out some of my favorite images from the first couple days of traveling to Norway. Stay tuned for me, and always keep up with my adventures over on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/fr33water/ (this is where I post a collection of my portfolio level material from Colorado, Utah and Norway - so give me a follow, and stay tuned for more incredible landscape images from around my world. Thank you for supporting, stay healthy, stay happy and stay positive world.
