THE MARKET STREETS OF PUSHKAR, INDIA // MEETYOUTHERE.ME TRAVEL BLOG

We set Emily loose one day in India on the market streets of Pushkar with ₹ 1,000 (about $15 USD) and here's what she was able to come away with.  Shopping and bargaining are her natural specialties so when it came to spending ₹ 1,000 it didn't take very long but it was interesting to discover how much good stuff $15 USD can get you in a place like Pushkar, India.  We use a couple different bargaining tactics such as: cut the original price in half, make a bundle of items, walk away when the sellers is being stiff - but walk away slowly because you'll usually win, shop before closing hour and avoid early morning bargaining.  It came be quite entertaining to interact with shop owners and try to make your own price - but be stern, hold true to your numbers game and get ready to take home some really awesome gifts, and unique items from incredible India.

1. Lotus brass earrings ₹100 (conversion $1.50 USD)

2. Elephant pants ₹200 ($3 USD)

3. Cross Body bag / Purse ₹250 ($3.75 USD)

4. 2 x Thai / India Silk Dresses ₹300 ($4.50) pictured below

5. Aztec Zip Pants ₹100 ($1.50 USD) basically the elephant pants + zippers

6. One Special Lassi ₹150 ($2.30) a must try while visiting this area (post coming soon about Special Lassi's in Pushkar, India) pictured here is the Special Lassi + nuts, dried fruit, chocolate and pomegranate from the Laughing Buddha - feel free to google the 'special' contents of these Special Lassi drinks and keep an eye out for our post coming soon.

E: I don’t want to toot my own horn but I’m a pretty good haggler so if you want to get the most for your money put on your bargaining pants. Don’t worry its fun for you and the seller. I once heard that if you don’t haggle/bargain with them you will ruin their day. All day the seller will think of how he should have had a higher price since you accepted to pay his highest price. So have fun and get out there and shop :)
