Our first road trip was spectacular in New Zealand - we drove the southern scenic route and hit: Nugget Point, to Te Anau then to Fiordlands National Park and even did a boat tour of Milford Sound.  (our cruise was booked thru Jucy Cruise one of the more reasonable prices we found) - shoot for an earlier cruise time to avoid the crowds, but be ware the drive from Te Anau will take a minimum of 2 hours.

Driving the scenic route of the South Island, New Zealand is a must-do for any adventure seeker, blogger and especially aspiring photographers.  While the weather might not always be the best, you must learn to take the conditions for what they serve up here in New Zealand.  These oceanic islands (consisting of the North and South Island) lie just 2,500 miles north of Antarctica leaving them isolated and prone to ever-changing weather conditions.  That being said this is also one of the most beautiful, epic and breath taking places I have ever visit in my entire life, I constantly catch myself saying 'I've never seen anything like this...' and you will too.  Also the drive from Te Anau into Fiordlands will take some time - if your constantly pulling the car over for some images, I couldn't stop snapping.

The weather often reminds me of the conditions we were used to in Vail, Colorado’s bone-chilling fall and springtime.  Although the good days can poke through – the conditions here during New Zealand’s “summer” have been dodgy to say the least.  We have learned to capture the pockets of sunshine and warm weather – enjoying every moment of blue skies with plenty of camera snaps and adventurous hikes.

Even when it’s chilly, foggy and raining we manage to get in our outdoor activities with mountain biking in the mud (which can add some fun).  Now we’re gearing up for our second road trip – here’s a photo recap from the first (above) and also a route map of the second road trip starting tomorrow… (route map at the bottom)

Here's a peek at our route heading up to Mt. Cook National Park past Lake Wanaka >>

Dunedin, NZ >> Lake Wanaka, NZ >> Mt. Cook National Park >> Hooker Valley Hike >> Roy’s Peak >> back to Dunedin, NZ
