Where do I begin with the fantastic markets we found in and around the Brixton, U.K. - to start Brixton was once looked at as the 'red light' area of London.    As the years have gone by Brixton has become a much better community (although some are rallying to wipe the area out) we found ourselves really enjoying what Brixton had to offer.  The first day we were there we wandered thru the curious street markets filled with tons of raw fish/meat, cheap clothing stands, furniture, luggage and anything else you could name they had a cheaper version of it.  Past this streets filled with carts of 'stuff' located next to Brixton's rec. center we found an amazing concept - they call it POP BRIXTON. "WHAT IS POP BRIXTON?

Pop Brixton is a project to support local jobs, training and enterprise.

Pop Brixton is a pioneering new space created with the local community in mind to showcase the best and most exciting independent start-ups and businesses from Brixton and Lambeth, where they can share space, skills and ideas.  Pop Brixton will house the next generation of local food and drinks entrepreneurs, retail outlets, workspaces for local business and artists, tech enterprises and a community event space, to be enjoyed by all. We are providing an affordable space for start-ups and small businesses, with 10 units available at 20-50% of market rate.  Pop Brixton, commissioned by Lambeth Council, has been designed by award-winning Carl Turner Architects in partnership with The Collective. We're stoked about projects like this - and Pop Brixton is a community built market places similar to something we have seen in Denver.  Flashback to a post we did on a place in Denver - called Avantis food and drink.  I'm not exactly sure who came up with the concept first but both locations host a large number of cargo cars that have been emptied and convert into food stands, clothing boutiques, micro brews and more.  The Pop Brixton had food from: Trinidad, Jamaica, France, Mexico, Asia, Mediterranean and beyond.  We enjoyed beers from a local brewery in the area, not to mention all the different clothing shops/second hand stores that Emily wandered thru during the day time.  The collections of business was varied here, some were satelite locations or smaller versions of their mother restaurant - but some were permanent businesses who operate even a carry out option for the locals that want to order from home.  Here's a short list of some of the foods we tried at Pop Brixton:
-Gyoza x2 from KOI Ramen Bar (see image at the beginning of post) was so damn good we got a second portion
-Jamaican chicken wings (see image below) best Caribbean spiced meat I've had in a long, long time I was thrilled.. The combination of sweet with spicy was next level - other customers around us seemed to be enjoying the wraps just as much
-Beer from a local London brewery and organic wine
-Pork and Chicken tacos plus chips and guacamole - perfect size, none of the portions at Brixton pop were too large or filling allowing us the opportunity to sample multiple different things
-French salted Carmel crepes for desert and we were full ready to be rolled home

Pop Brixton blew our minds with the different, unique flavors from around the globe - also each one of these food places just nailed it with portion size, friendliness, cold drinks and plenty of smiles.  We felt very welcome here hanging around a ton of people our age who seemed just as entertained by Pop Brixton as we were - we could see many locals starting their weekend nights at this unique and special marketplace.
