Exploring Berlin - Meet You There meets the Mauer Market,
Berlin, Germany

If you find yourself traveling thru Berlin on a Saturday there is a world famous market here called the Mauer Park Market.  While I'm not sure if it's world famous it should be because this is unlike any market we have ever explored.  We thought the Czech Republic had some of the most unique markets in the world - then we went to Berlin and checked out the Mauer Street Market.  This place should be featured on a show like American Pickers (Abroad) one entire section of the Mauer Market is dedicate entirely to antiques.

The center of the Mauer market hosts a collection of street food from around the world - the entrance of the market (which took us about half the day to walk thru) hosts over 5 isles of art carts, fashion booths selling hand crafted tees and bags, jewelry, wrapped stones, beer carts and antique camera gear.  We wish we had bigger bags so we could have taken so more items home from this wonderful Saturday Berlin market.  We were able to purchase some gifts for family from this market which was nice - we picked out a neat hanging cactus ceramic pot for my mother and Emily picked out a beautiful stone necklace.  Be sure to come to the Mauer market strapped with some extra euros - we broke our budget a little bit here but each item had a unique story or were hand craft in front of us.

Not only does this market host hundreds of stands filled with shopping, food and antiques but outside the market there's is a gigantic field where street music fills the air and up top a graffiti crew makes a wall transform into a new canvas.  I really enjoyed being able to check out the street art in Berlin, Germany it was some of the best work we have seen in all of Europe - impressive designs, sharp art and polite artists willing to talk with us about their art pieces while they drank large German beers and lunged down cigarettes.

If you love flea markets and have a day to spend outside then put this on your list of things to do while in Berlin we highly recommend it.  It was unique to see so many different kinds of people: young adults (we felt at home), families, hippies, graffiti artists, street performers - all at the same market enjoying the warm German sun shine.  This was one of our favorite memories from Berlin - it helped us to really enjoy our time spent in Germany - we were really pleased with some of the travel photography we were able to capture inside and around this market. ~MYT
