STREET ART IN THE REEPERBAHN DISTRICT // MEET YOU THERE IMAGES

A little while back I did a post on graffiti of Belgium and street art in general - I'm going to continue to write about the art we see all across Europe.  After visiting Köln, Hamburg and Berlin in Germany we have been able to see street art pretty wide spread from the Netherlands to the Czech Republic but Germany stood out on its own.  The style of the street art in Berlin in particular will take an entire blog post to cover - but leading up to Berlin we saw some pretty impressive street art.

Hamburg has an area notoriously known as the Reeperbahn district - consider this their 'Red Light District' while using our tour bus we hopped off and strolled around the shipping port of Hamburg and then took our chances walking thru the Repperbahn.  This walk didn't last long - we didn't feel very safe here (although it was mid morning) starring into the brothel windows felt errie and the streets were lined with very interesting characters still drunk from last night.  According to wiki article on the Repperbahn here(sorry if the image below is disturbing I wanted to capture the McDs next to the brothel)

In German it is also sometimes described as ‘die sündigste Meile’ (the most sinful mile)

Definitely not a place to take your camera to at night but during the daylight I was able to capture some really interesting street art in this 'red light' district.  Above are some tags and street art in Hamburg and keep reading below is a small collection of the artwork from Köln, Germany.

Street art comes in so many different forms in Europe - chalk art, wall art, wall murals, graffiti tags, painted tags, stenciled tags and tile art.

One of our favorite artists to see spread thru Europe has been the invader series (Invaders Paris and Space invader).  Emily is especially good at spotting these guys art - below you can see an image the invader on a light pole outside of the Köln central train station - have you been able to spot any unusual street art on your travels?! Comment us below.  We've seen these super creative tile art pieces in Belgium, Hamburg and even where we are now in London.
